Some people are being pulled without being able to stop when they need to. The strange thing is, many people do not realize that they are being pulled. Even for most who realizes this, they believe that they can stop whenever they choose to. Why is this so? Studies have revealed that many drug addicts did not have the intention of becoming an addict.
There is a man named Julio who had been doing drugs for almost twenty years. One day, as the drugs wore off, he became extremely hungry and was searching through the trash for food. He eventually found pieces of bread and devoured it. It wasn’t until he had finished eating that he realized that the bread was spoilt. As he looked at himself, he started to compare his life with others for the first time. “What’s wrong with me? Other people come to the park with their beautiful families and I’m here so pitiful. Drugs have ruined my life.”
For the first time in his life, he realized what a failure he had become and from that moment his heart changed. Julio had been to rehabilitation centers many times before but he had closed his heart to receiving any guidance from the counsellors and ended up leaving each time. Now, when he finally saw himself and how much he had failed, he could finally be readmitted to a rehabilitation center and listen to the words of the counsellors.
When anyone thinks that they are right, good or even smart, they are unable to listen to someone else. Despite what anyone says, that person is only able to listen to and select whatever fits their own heart. On the other hand, if you come to realize your failure or flaws and can acknowledge this, then you will be in a position to listen to someone else.
Change in life does not happen through determination and effort.
