One person was recently spotted wearing one with the words, “I DO WHAT I WANT” written in bold letters. Interesting concept and it is and not altogether strange. Everyone likes the notion of being in control of their lives, being free, as the T-shirt said. However, what is true freedom?
There are two kinds of animals, some that men have domesticated and some that live in the wild. Domesticated animals surrender their freedom to a master who has control over them. When an animal has a good master, this master basically does everything for them; bathe them, feed them, take them to the vet when necessary…everything!
On the flip side, consider a wild animal. This animal has no master and as a result does whatever it wants, living by its instincts and roaming free. They have to care for themselves, by themselves. If they are hungry, they have to find food, if they are cold, they have to warm themselves. This freedom means they have total charge of their life, whether they can manage it or not.
As circumstances change, many animals in the wild have become extinct as they are unable to overcome the challenges, often man-made, that they face. Their ability to manage their own lives is extremely limited. However, many of us are living with the mindset of a wild animal. We think that by being in full control, our lives will automatically be happier and brighter.
This is not necessarily the case. What oftentimes bring us misery is the idea that we do not need the care of others around us and that we can manage. We can choose do it ourselves all the time or we can get help. This is how communities are formed, it’s where people help each other.
Like domesticated animals, we all need people around us to guide our lives. Many times we have no idea that we are heading down a dangerous path unless we have someone with different eyes to see what we cannot and point it out to us. True freedom is having the liberty to stop or be stopped if necessary. Sliding down a hill isn’t fun if you have no way to stop.
True freedom is having someone who cares for you. Knowing this gives your hearts freedom to rest. Are you TRULY free?[/text_output][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/1″][vc_raw_html]JTNDc3R5bGUlM0UlMEEuZW50cnktdGh1bWIlMjBpbWclMjAlN0IlMEElMjAlMjAlMjAlMjBtYXgtaGVpZ2h0JTNBJTIwNDAwcHglM0IlMEElN0QlMEElMEEucG9zdC1jb250ZW50JTIwJTdCJTBBJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwdGV4dC1hbGlnbiUzQSUyMGp1c3RpZnklM0IlMEElMjAlMjAlMjAlMjB0ZXh0LWp1c3RpZnklM0ElMjBpbnRlci13b3JkJTNCJTBBJTdEJTBBJTNDJTJGc3R5bGUlM0U=[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row]
