Many people think they are in control of their destiny and would like to believe they have everything under control. This world has taught us that if we work hard, we can do it and we’ve come to accept that. If it’s not working, we just need to double our efforts and try again. We often hear that the power is in us, so if it’s not working, we are the problem.
So now that we believe that if the power is within us, we really don’t like being told what to do. A slave is someone who surrenders control of his life to someone else. Freedom means – no boundaries and the ability to choose between success and failure by ourselves.
However, children surrender their lives to their parents. We can certainly agree that children, who have “freedom” to do as they please, have bad parents and are spoilt. Athletes pay a lot of money to surrender their training to a good coach. People also pay personal trainers who push them mercilessly to where they wouldn’t go on their own. We can even argue which is better off – a wild dog or a domesticated one. People have let their dogs lie with them in bed, and rush them to the vet when they are sick. Wild dogs don’t have that luxury; no matter what comes, they are on their own. They control their own lives so they are limited by their ability.
Are we really in control, or do we need help controlling ourselves? Anybody who wanted to succeed had to learn quickly that they need help. In wanting to maintain control, we often refuse help and tell ourselves we can do it. However, without having discipline to control themselves people often fall into difficulties and find misery instead of happiness.
The dog with a good master is truly free. Likewise, children with good parents are truly free. Self-control starts with realizing that we can’t trust ourselves alone. We need help that can push us past our desires. We need a coach, we need a mentor. We admire athletes who bend their bodies into submission, or the dog that can see cats and ignore the urge to chase them. But we forget the coach that led them there.
Do you have a mentor? Who helps YOU maintain self-control?[/text_output][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/1″][vc_raw_html]JTNDc3R5bGUlM0UlMEEuZW50cnktdGh1bWIlMjBpbWclMjAlN0IlMEElMjAlMjAlMjAlMjBtYXgtaGVpZ2h0JTNBJTIwNDAwcHglM0IlMEElN0QlMEElMEEucG9zdC1jb250ZW50JTIwJTdCJTBBJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwdGV4dC1hbGlnbiUzQSUyMGp1c3RpZnklM0IlMEElMjAlMjAlMjAlMjB0ZXh0LWp1c3RpZnklM0ElMjBpbnRlci13b3JkJTNCJTBBJTdEJTBBJTNDJTJGc3R5bGUlM0U=[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row]
